Accommodation
Cooma has an abundance of accommodation and offers a wide range, from budget, 3 star & 3 1/2 star Motels, B&Bs, holiday cottages, a caravan park and pub style with share facilities.
The history of accommodation in Cooma is interesting as the town for many years was known as the 'Gateway to the Snowy Mountains' and with the popularity of skiing and the construction of the Snowy Scheme in the early days, tourism became a boom to the township.
Thousands of visitors met in Cooma and joined car convoys to travel to the mountains and it soon became apparent that the hotels were not suited to accommodate the many families now visiting the area.
The first motel was the Ambassador Motel built in 1958. It was not only Cooma's first motel but is also believed to be the first motel built in country New South Wales. It later became known as the Hawaii Motel and is presently called the Greenleigh Motel.
